How to Cleanse a Crystal

Cleansing a crystal doesn’t need to be complicated, and it doesn’t need special equipment. It’s simply a way of resetting a stone after it’s absorbed whatever it’s been sitting near — before first use, after a heavy day, or every few weeks if you use it often.

Smoke

Passing a stone through incense smoke is the most common method, and works for almost any crystal. A stick of Dragon’s Blood incense is a traditional choice for this. Light it, let it settle into a steady stream of smoke, and pass the crystal through a few times.

Moonlight

Leaving a crystal on a windowsill overnight under the full moon is a gentler, no-flame alternative — genuinely safe for every stone, including the softer ones smoke or water could damage. A small trinket dish is a tidy way to leave a few stones out together.

What to avoid

Water and direct sunlight are the two methods worth being careful with. Selenite dissolves in water, and stones like amethyst and citrine can fade with prolonged direct sun. Smoke or moonlight are the safer default for anything you’re not certain about.
